Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) can be defined as a condition that is triggered by a terrifying experience. Some of the symptoms and signs of this condition are uncontrollable thoughts about the event, severe anxiety, nightmares, and flashbacks. Most of the individuals who experience traumatic events usually have a tough time adjusting and coping with the situation but tough with good care and time they may recover.

The symptoms of this condition may starts within the first month of the event of trauma, though in some instances, the symptoms may not be identified until the end of the year since the event took place. The symptoms usually cause very serious problems in work and social situations as well as in the relationship. PTSD symptoms are divided into four main categories: change in emotional and physical reaction, a negative change in mood and thinking, avoidance, and intrusive memories. The symptoms may intensify with time, a patient may have more symptoms when they are stressed, or when they come across the memories of what took place when they were traumatized. For example, if one hears relive combat and car backfire experiences. Another example is in an event of assault if the patient sees such news on television. It is always important to visit a doctor or mental health provider if the symptoms have persisted for over one month or one is not able to control their life.
