Transition your work space to an in-home setting while keeping a high level of professional output and minimizing stress.
This is an unprecedented time within the workforce as record numbers of employees are transitioning from a corporate office environment to an in-home office space. The unknown and novelty of this transition naturally increases stress, anxiety and overwhelm. A stressed workforce is an unproductive workforce. Maintaining productivity and motivation during the COVID-19 outbreak will be integral to all businesses as they maneuver through uncertainty.
Much will change as the workforce transitions in-home during this time of crisis. A corporate workplace has many benefits including structure and boundaries. Nothing threatens productivity like a lack of structure. For this reason, creating structure through routine becomes paramount for those working within their homes. Unfortunately, those new to in-home workspaces often waste time, unaware of common pitfalls and time traps. This decreases productivity and feeds into a cycle of needing to borrow from their “home” time to catch up. As boundaries blur, productivity will increasingly diminish and job satisfaction will follow suit.
As workers transition into their homes to work and create a structured routine, the final step is to take control of the mental arena. Most of the remaining anxieties will be based out of fear and fed by the hamster wheel of insecurities. Unfortunately, it’s human nature to perceive newness and change as a threat. Having no one at the next desk to bounce ideas off of, leads to feelings of isolation. Novelty, change, uncertainty and isolation can all impact performance but these can be nipped in the bud by mastering our mindset.
