We are experiencing a New Global Stress Response to COVID-19.
Chronic stress, acute stress, generalized anxiety and for some – panic attack symptoms – are all states that are now experienced by our society as a whole.
We are, in general, now overexposed to our shared global trauma. As we are encountering this environmental danger, this virus, our core survival instincts are triggered inspiring the classic flight and flight response.
Our shared acute stress has become a chronic stress. We encounter both a theoretical fear of contamination, and the real fear of catching the virus. And, for some, the very real and devastating impact of losing a relative or friend.
We find ourselves living within a Stress Response or Activated System, with it becoming part of the NEW NORMAL.
